novak chapter nine

bob novak here. you might recall
the column that i wrote last fall
in which i outed mrs plame
yet managed to evade the blame

now winter ices vengeful hearts
though Wilson gave me fits and starts
even he of erstwhile ire
did fail to land me in the fire.

now i turn to other games
while faded from the public view
conspiring with karl rove
to weave a web of schemes anew

i think the democrats need fixin
in the way of richard nixon
with vile claptrap i shall soon
arise again and like the loon
cry hoarsely in the darking gyre
and with my pen erect a pyre
and seal my calling as a liar

Ode to Torture, by Alberto Gonzalez

and cannot have a bearing
on the President's desire

quite burns to tell us of his crimes

Torture?! I abhor the word!
But let me note that terroristes
by nature absolve us of minor departures
From comportmente Humaniste!

If confirmed I swear to stop ---
When organ-failure's imminent.

perhaps applied in a limited way
to criminals domestically
as well as agents provacateur, and liberals more generally
we'll find that certain cajoling treatments
produce a well-mannered and conservative
Christian society
