Was not so much a hurricane
As the revelation of social schisms
Which, far from being on the wane
In America grow and thrive
Aided by any number of –isms

Conservatism’s in first place.
It’s got nothing to do with flags
Despite the way they don them,
Or family values, so to speak;
But has a bunch to do with race.
Or Trent Lott’s porch, in any case.
